Kroger shop 7/30

Today, I hit Kroger and saved a ton.....The sale ends today...

I spent $32.83 and saved $21.35. This is a 40% savings.

I bought 20 items....

Pork Chops were on sale... I bought 2 packages and broke it up into 4 freezer bags.
2 cans of Chili Magic (My dear husband has been craving Chilli)
2 Packages of Ball Park Franks (used coupon)
3 Skintimates (used 3 coupons)
Bread
6 Canned tomato products (I am making the spaghetti sauce from the crockpot lady)
2 Boxes of Poptarts (as requested by my daughters)
Belligio Mozerella
Ziplock bags

According to my receipt, I have saved $331.62 for shopping at Kroger. This doesn't include what I have saved with coupons..

With today's shop I saved $18.70 since all of the items I bought were on sale. I have $2.65 cents worth of coupons.

Yeah!!!

Do you need more coupons?

I wanted to remind some of you about the coupon clipping service that I have been using. I referenced this in an earlier posting.

It is called thecouponclippers.com

I recommend ordering coupons for items that you know that you will always use. This way you guarantee that you will always save money on things that you must have.

Here is what I bought this evening after the girls went to bed...

1 Tide coupon for .35 cents off = .70 cents when doubled at Kroger/Meijer
2 Satin Care Shave gel coupons for .55 cents off= our stores don't double over .50 cents
15 Edy's Slow Churned Yogurt Blends Frozen Dairy Dessert save .50 cents = 1.00 off each
(I ordered a lot of these because the expiration date is good until December. We go through about 3 gallons a month. I can always stash some in the freezer when I get close to the expiration date.)
8 Yoplait coupons .40 cents off of 6 = .80 cents off (Every member of my family eats these!)
8 Yoplait whips coupons buy 4 get 1 free = about .60 cents off for our area
1 Laughing Cow Cheese Wedge -1.00 off
2 Huggies Cleanteam flushable moist wipes $3.00 of of 2 (I love to have these in my truck)
2 Tropicana Lemonade -1.00/1
5 Coffee Mate liquid creamer $1.00/2

All of this cost me $5.53. When these are redeemed at the grocery store, they will save me $39.80! Hopefully, I will be able to apply these coupons when the items are on sale and the items will be even cheaper. But honestly, these are items that I will buy year round so sometimes I have to buy them when they are not on sale!

Not bad!!!

What do you do with your plastic grocery bags?

Seattle is going to begin charging .20 cents to every customer who uses plastic grocery bags. Do you bring a bag from home? Would you be willing to be charged for this?

For those of you that shop at Aldi, you know that you need to bring bags from home or you can purchase bags at the store. I have always brought bags to Aldi but never thought about bringing them to other grocery stores. I always recycled my plastic bags from other grocery stores or used them to pick up our dog's poop. Even though I recycled, I know that there is more that I can do to help the environment.

My friend Laurel uses her own bags when she grocery shops. She showed me her canvas bags she uses at Meijers. Many grocery stores offer their own bags, but I really like Meijer's bag. You know me, I have shopped around. They are a great size, and they have a loop on them that fit on the twirly thing that most stores use to bag their groceries.

If you do get the plastic bags, there are 2 places in our town that I know of that recycle them - Walmart and Kroger.

I keep a rubbermaid storage tote in my truck with all of my canvas grocery bags and a couple of insulated grocery bags. It is the type of tote that Clean Sweep (on TLC) uses. It has 2 handles on it and it is very narrow so it doesn't take up a ton of space. I leave this in the car, because there are times that I decide to run into the grocery store on my way home from work or an errand. This way they are always available. After I bring the groceries into the house, I take the bags bag out to my truck so they are available for the next shopping trip.

I use this tote to store my canvas bags, plastic bags that I need to recycle, picnic blanket, and umbrella.

I am looking for a small canvas bag to keep in my purse to use when I shop at other stores such as Target, Kohl's, etc.

Just thought I would share some things that will begin to impact us at our grocery stores!

Meijer sale this week 7/29/08 through Saturday

https://honeynutcheerios.icmodus.com/Default.aspx?bhcp=1

They have General Mills cereal 4/$10

The above is a coupon for Honey Nut Cheerios. This is for $1.00 off...

Making them 1.50 a box....Regularly 3.29 a box....

Great shop today....

I spent $62.68 and saved $45.14....It should have cost 107.82 cents. This is a 42% savings.

It should have been about $1.25 less because my Dole salad rang up the wrong price. I didn't notice this until our way out. I would have gone to customer service, but I had ice cream melting on a 90 degree day....Oh well!!

This last week was my best! I spent less than I actually saved!! This was 51% savings...

Since June 8th, I have saved $419.00! I wish I had started keeping track in April when I began my coupon adventure. Think of what this savings can do for your family's financial situation. We are using my grocery savings to of course compensate for the cost of gas, but I have also increased my monthly contribution to my retirement account due to this new way of shopping!

I am currently trying something called the grocery game. I plan on sharing my trial experiences with you in the next 2 weeks.

Another thing that has really helped us cut our expenses was for me to write down on an index card my grocery spending for the week. After each grocery visit, I would write down what I spent and keep a running total. Once I got close to my budget for that week, I forced myself to fix meals from our stockpile. I don't know about you but I always bring more food into the house when I actually have food. It is just not something that I feel like eating at the time!

To create your stockpile, the trick is to buy multiples of an item when it is at it's cheapest (using a coupon). So, you will never have to pay full price for that item when you run out. This really amazed me that this was possible. For example, I use to always buy generic cereal because I thought it was cheaper. Cereal in my opinion is so darn expensive. Well, a couple of weeks ago it was on sale at Kroger for $1.88 (name brand) and if you applied a coupon for a $1.00 off it was only .88cents a box! I was also able to get a few boxes for free because of my e coupon and a manufactures coupon.

I actually love grocery shopping now!! I love when I checkout and I see my total and then they enter my coupons and the price goes down and down and down....

Discount Dining for Central Illinois

http://wmbd.nexstardeals.com/index.php?index_type=home

My friend Laurel told me about this website. It looks great. It allows you to order gift certificates for area restaurants at a discounted price. Qdoba gift certificates are available for tomorrow!

It is very similar to restaurants.com which does the same but doesn't offer any area restaurants.
Update: I was able to purchase 6 $10.00 gift certificates for $30.00. If you sign in they will send you emails of upcoming offers. Be quick when they are offering something, the Qdoba certificates went on sale at 8:00 am this morning and they were all sold out within the hour. They also have gift certificates to Bennigan's.

Info about restaurants.com. This would be a good site for gifts for family members or if you are taking a vacation and will be near an area that has featured restaurants. Currently restaurants.com is offering 70% off their prices. Check it out!!

Another Shopping List Resource

Hello! Through my continued research to find the quickest, simplest and most cost saving approach to my grocery shopping, I came across a website that you may like.

I am thinking that this would help eliminate the need to check the couponing blogs on a weekly basis.

http://www.groceryguide.com/

You enter your zipcode and choose 2 stores. Again, I would recommend Kroger and Meijer since in our area they double coupons. If an item is on sale and you would use a coupon you would get an even greater savings.

You would then create your shopping list. As you choose your items to put on your list, you can directly check what coupons you can use to apply to the item. You can then go to your coupon file and put this coupon with your list and you are then ready to shop!

I haven't used this yet as a shopping list. I am currently experimenting with something else that I hope to share my success/failure with you sometime in the middle of August.

As I have stated in previous posts, my goal this summer is to fine tune this system to find the quickest system that will save me the most money.

I hope that my research can benefit you and your family as well!

Look for more info about my current system in the coming month.

Diaper Savings

I am only surfing my bookmarked blogs once a week! I am trying to curb my addiction....

Anyways, this looked like a great resource for those of you who still have kids in diapers. There is some info about diaper sales, etc.

Need More Coupons?

I had been frustrated that I only had one coupon for items that were on sale so I began to search for ways to find more coupons! I know ...... I am officially obsessed!!

I have tried a coupon clipping service that allows you to purchase additional coupons. I have ordered from them twice and have been really happy with their service.

http://www.thecouponclippers.com/

You have to have a minimum order of $3.00. They have coupons available for as little as .05 cents. If your coupon is worth .50 cents and your store doubles coupons you have earned .95 cents for a .05 cent investment.

They charge a total .50 cent handling fee for the entire order and then you pay .42 cents for postage. So, you are paying and additional .92 cents to get the coupons you want and will use!

I have been pleased with their selection. They have a lot of coupons that I have never seen in our local papers. I bought coupons for Propel for $1.00 off. This was great as this week my daughters had soccer and volleyball camp this week. We went through a ton of Gatorade and Propel. I have been buying coupons for items that I use on a regular basis or know that I will need in the future. At the start of a sale, I have also taken the sale flyer for a store such as Kroger/Meijer and bought additional coupons for an item that I see is on sale. If you order at the start of the sale, you would have your coupons in time to use. This company is in Florida. The first time I ordered it took 2 days for me to receive them. The last time it took 3 but it also fell over the 4th of July.

I really think that those of you who have kids still in diapers that this would be a great way to get multiple packages of diapers on sale and get to apply a coupon to the sale price as well!

I also read about going to the Dollar Stores on Sunday to get additional Sunday papers to get more coupons. I think I will try this the next time our Sunday paper has a really good coupon circular.

I hope your saving adventure has begun!

I plan on posting my grocery savings at the end of this month! I truly believe that you will be amazed at how much I am saving!!!

CVS is the way to save!!!

http://www.thenewfrugalmom.com/2008/03/cvs-how-to-save.html

The above blog does such a great job explaining why CVS is the place to shop and how to do it. I recommend that you read her advice and suggestions!

I have been saving so much money on medicine, bandaides, toothbrushes, toothpaste, beauty products, sunscreen, feminine products, etc. All of the fun things that I hate buying, I now get at CVS for almost free!

You must have a card to get the savings!!

I recommend that you find a CVS store near other stores or areas that you frequent. Right now the one that is closest to us is by our public library and my mother-in-law's. Unfortunately, we don't get to this side of town very often. So, I have only been there about 5-7 times so far this summer. I am really trying to conserve my gas!

Once I go back to work in the fall, I plan on going once or twice a week as it is a quick shot from my school. For now I am only going once or twice a month.

On one of the blogs that I read, they recommended staring with a $25.00 investment when you begin your CVS journey. Buy a CVS gift card for $25.00 and see how long you can make it last. I think you would be surprised at how long your $25.00 dollars can last if you plan out your shopping trips.

My first few trips did not net the best deals, but I have since gotten better at decreasing my cash out of pocket with each purchase.

Our CVS is rather small and I have found out that a few times items have been out of stock, especially if it was a great deal. At my last visit the cashier offered me a raincheck. The raincheck issued indicated the sale price and the amount of ECB's I would get back. This raincheck can be used at a later date. The item I was trying to get was a Brut deoderant for $2.29 (with a coupon from my paper) and then I would get $3.00 back to spend on another transaction. So, don't forget to ask for a raincheck!

Enjoy saving at CVS!

Why couponing?

I came across this post early in my coupon exploration...

It explains how if you are trying to find some ways to save money that couponing (even though that it takes time) can save you soooo much money!

I think she explains this in a way that makes sense to me. This also has helped in my decision to enter this adventure!

http://www.thenewfrugalmom.com/2008/03/coupons-part-i-work-for-yourself.html

Enjoy!

More ways to save online

Hello! You may remember me mentioning ebates earlier in a post. It is such a great site. It pays you when you purchase from your favorite stores.

You can get to this site from the link on the side of this blog.

Dear Husband and I are now up to $28 dollars! He absolutely loves this site as it has all of his favorite stores and loves the coupons they share with you.

Now, I went to Ann Taylor Loft.com which you all know is my all time favorite store. You earn 3% back from ebates! Also, the only way I can get my tall pants from the Loft is online!

Well, they are having a great sale, but I wanted to see if I could also find free shipping and/or an additional coupon code to use on my order.

So, of course I had bookmarked some sites from my coupon research and I checked both of these sites looking for online codes to use.

1. http://www.freeshipping.org/
This website gives you coupon codes that allows you to receive free shipping.

2. http://www.retailmenot.com/
This website gives online codes for various stores.

Well, I wasn't lucky finding a code on free shipping. But I found a code for $25.00 off my order on retailmenot! Yeah!!!

I hope you can take advantage of this information! I would love to hear all your great savings stories. I know that my sister has gotten some great things for her classroom library!

What have you bought or what great deals have you found? Let us know in the comment section of this posting!

Now what should I make?

During the school year when things are really hectic, I have wished that I had put something in the crock pot so when we get home from school and work dinner would be ready....Very Rarely would I do this...

Well, during my blogging research I came across a really great blog. The writer of this blog has vowed to use her crockpot every day for a year. I have been checking her blog from time to time and haven't yet tried any of her recipes. I do plan on tapping into this when our sporting events take over our lives again....Everything looks really good. She takes a picture of the finished product.

Anyways, I just checked her blog today and I find out that she will be featured on Rachel Ray at the end of July!!!

Check out her blog: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/
